About the tour

Travel through the tropical lowland rainforest of Meru Betiri by jeep. Witness one of nature’s great events: observing turtles laying their eggs on the secluded Sukamade beach and releasing baby turtles into the ocean.

DAY 1:

In the morning, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Kalibaru. It takes about four hours to drive from Kalibaru to Sukamade. The route takes you through various villages, beautiful natural landscapes, including mountains, forests, and plantations. You will pass through several cocoa and rubber plantations where you can make a stop before reaching Rajegwesi, where you will stop for lunch (not included). After lunch, the adventure begins in the Meru Betiri National Park. You will slowly drive through the dense jungle of this pristine national park, up and down over a bumpy road with many rocks and potholes. Before reaching Sukamade, you will need to cross several shallow rivers with the jeep. Upon arrival, you will check in at a basic accommodation, close to the beach. After a delicious dinner, you will go to Sukamade beach. Your ranger will search for the turtles. The enormous sea turtles weigh between 100 and 350 kilograms and lay between 60 and 200 eggs. If you are lucky (no guarantee), you will find the turtles and observe the wonderful process of egg-laying. After this, you will return to your accommodation.

Day 2:

In the morning, around 06.00, before breakfast, you can join in releasing baby turtles into the ocean and visit the egg hatchery to learn about sea turtles’ lives. Afterward, you’ll return to Rajegwesi to visit Green Bay Beach (Teluk Hijau). It’s a short walk through the jungle and along a rocky path. After visiting Green Bay, you will have lunch. Following lunch, you’ll be taken to Ketapang harbor, where you can catch a boat to Bali.
