About the tour

Enjoy a multi-day tour through the legendary rainforest of Kalimantan in Tanjung Puting National Park. Cruise along the Sekonyer River and spend your nights sleeping on the deck of a kelotok, a local houseboat. Wake up each morning to the tranquil sounds of the forest. With a tour guide by your side, you will get the opportunity to observe animals like orangutans, gibbons, and Proboscis monkeys in their natural habitats. Gain valuable insights into the unique ecosystem of Kalimantan from your tour guide.

DAY 1
A private car will pick you up at the airport or at your accommodation and take you to the Kumai port where you’ll board the kelotok boat. The boat crew consists of the boatman, a cook and an English speaking guide. As you cruise towards Tanjung Puting National Park along the Sekonyer River, you’ll make your first stop after approximately 2 hours at Tanjung Harapan, an orangutan rehabilitation center. A brief 20-minute walk in the forest leads you to platforms where you can witness the orangutans being fed at 15:00. In the serene late afternoon, you’ll explore the calm river to observe proboscis monkeys and, if in season, fireflies amidst the nipa palms along the riverside. After sunset, there is an opportunity to take an evening walk. Accompanied by a ranger, you will search for animals. You may encounter colorful birds, spiders, centipedes, large ants, glowing mushrooms, and carnivorous plants. After the walk enjoy a delicious Asian meal served at the dining table on the deck. For the night, you will sleep on the deck, mosquito nets will be provided for your comfort.

DAY 2
Enjoy your early breakfast as the kelotok cruises gently up the river, offering opportunities to spot wildlife along the forested riversides. Your first stop is Pondok Tanggui, the rehabilitation center for newly released orangutans. Take a forest walk to observe these fascinating creatures in their beautiful natural setting, with feeding time scheduled for 09:00. The boat then navigates into the narrow black water canal providing access to Camp Leakey, a journey lasting approximately 90 minutes. Lunch will be served on the boat. Upon arrival, embark on a scenic walk along boardwalks and into the forest, reaching the wild orangutan feeding area. Here, you can observe orangutans moving through the treetops, accompanied by the echoing calls of the rangers. Continue your forest walk to spot more orangutans in their natural habitat. Returning to the kelotok, you resume the downstream cruise, taking the opportunity to spot animals and birds along the way. The day concludes with dinner and a peaceful overnight stay on the deck of the boat, surrounded by the tranquil forest.

DAY 3
After breakfast, the boat will take you back to the port in Kumai, where you will arrive around 09:00. Upon your arrival, a private car will transfer you to Pangkalan Bun airport or a hotel in Pangkalan Bun.
